Al Whissell is a qualified mediator (Q.Med) with both the ADR Institute of Ontario and the ADR Institute of Canada. 

He is a full member of the above-mentioned institutes. Al has also completed family mediation training with the OAFM. He will assist you in any dispute, and will help you discover the alternatives to costly court battles.

Al has been highly effective in resolving complex disputes, facilitating policy issues, mediating multi-party cases, managing intense emotions. He is a peace officer by profession, with over 29 years' experience in dealings of conflict resolutions of many fashions.

After 28 Years in the Law enforcement field, Al has acquired extensive specialized training in the field of alternative dispute resolution. Regular use of skills such as communication, negotiation, problem-solving, analytical and conflict resolution have increased the ability to maintain confidences, exercise sound judgment and discretion, work collaboratively with others and foster effective working relationships with clients.

Al has spent over 28 years working and dealing with a variety of intense Crisis situations, multiple labour disputes, Human resources Conflicts, Workplace discrimination and Harassment conflicts as well as disciplinary (including dismissal) conflicts. Mediating many labour related and work related conflicts has given him the skill and expertise needed to resolve complex issues.

Al’s expectations for his clients are to facilitate negotiation and settlement between disputing parties by providing direction and encouragement, collaboratively working with them to find creative ways to reach a mutually satisfying solution, typically a compromise. 

Al does not represent or advocate for either side but strongly believes in doing all he can to bring both parties to a common middle ground.

As an impartial Mediator Al feels strongly that the mediation approach is non-adversarial, and that mediation is regarded by most as a means to reach a WIN-WIN solution.
